BLOXOM, Va. — A person was killed in a house fire in Accomack County late Friday morning, officials said.
The fire happened along Nelsonia Road in Bloxom at 9:57 a.m. The Onancock Volunteer Fire Department was alerted along with Atlantis, Saxis, Bloxom, Parksley, and Melfa Fire Departments for a fire with a resident trapped inside the house.
Crews arrived from Parksley to find flames coming from a 2-story house. The first floor was fully engulfed in fire. Firefighters used ground ladders to make entry to rescue the trapped resident in the house.
One person was found dead inside on the first floor.
Onancok EMS was on the scene to treat residents suffering from toxic gases from the fire.
The cause of the fire is unknown. The fire investigators are still at the scene of the fire investigating.
