CHESAPEAKE, Va. — One person is dead following a crash involving a motorcycle on Interstate 64 early Saturday morning, according to Virginia State Police (VSP).
The two-vehicle crash happened in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 286 just after 2:40 a.m. Investigators determined a Kawasaki ZX636K was heading east on I-64 when the motorcyclist sped into the rear of an Alfa Romeo, causing the motorcyclist to be thrown and struck by a Nissan Kicks.
The motorcyclist, later identified as 25-year-old Samuel Stoy of Norfolk, was pronounced dead at the scene. VSP said Stoy was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
No one else was injured in the collision.
Police said speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
