VIRGINIA BEACH--A Virginia Beach woman is ready to take a dive into the Shark Tank to promote her small business, Kazam.
Mary Beth Lugo will be one of the next contestants on the hit ABC reality show Shark Tank, where five self-made millionaires or billionaires will decide if they want to take her on as partner.
Lugo's pitch--bicycles, but not ordinary ones.
Lugo, her husband, and her partner Elizabeth Wagner started selling the bikes in 2009 for toddlers and young kids learning how to ride a bike for the first time. The bikes teach kids how to balance on two wheels before jumping onto a bike that has pedals.
'We have tons of kids in our neighborhood who've been riding two-wheel bikes since they were 3 years old,' says Lugo.
Lugo says she got tapped to be on the show after sending an email. A response came the same day. Six weeks later, she was in Los Angeles taping an episode.
'We actually held our own mock Shark Tank events at my business partner's house. Still, once you get there it is sort of this surreal experience, with the five of them sitting there. I definitely could feel the nerves.'
You can watch Lugo when she appears on the show Friday night on WVEC-13 at 9 p.m.
