RICHMOND(AP) -- A federal judge has rejected an appeal by a Virginia death row inmate convicted of killing four people in Norfolk.

Anthony Juniper was sentenced to death for the 2004 murders of ex-girlfriend Keisha Stevens, her two children and her brother, Ruben Harrison III.

U.S. District Judge John Gibney in Richmond said Friday that prosecutors likely withheld evidence favorable to Juniper. However, he said the suppressed statements of certain witnesses would not have overcome DNA test results and other evidence pointing to Juniper's guilt.

Gibney also rejected Juniper's claims that he was denied effective representation at trial.

The 41-year-old Juniper came within one day of being executed in 2011. Gibney stayed the execution to allow him to pursue federal appeals.
