Countdown to ‘Pressure’: Brendan Fraser stars in the untold story of D-Day

There is currently no release date for the movie. Production is set to begin.

NORFOLK, Va. — Prepare to dive into the heart of history with the upcoming film "Pressure," a portrayal of the behind-the-scenes decisions that shaped one of World War II's most pivotal moments. Starring Academy Award winner Brendan Fraser as General Dwight D. Eisenhower and Andrew Scott as Group Captain James Stagg, the film offers a different perspective on the Normandy invasion.

On June 6, 1944, the world witnessed Operation Overlord unfold. Allied forces launched a coordinated assault, with 7,000 ships landing 133,000 soldiers on the beaches of Normandy. Eisenhower, who described the operation as a "Great Crusade," publicly exuded confidence, assuring the troops of his faith in their courage and skill.

Yet, behind this facade of certainty was serious doubt. As depicted in "Pressure," Eisenhower was deeply uncertain about the invasion's success. The night before, the weather conditions in the English Channel were so severe that German commanders were convinced an invasion was impossible.

Despite his public assurances, Eisenhower faced a monumental dilemma. The stakes were immense—hundreds of thousands of lives and the potential outcome of the entire European theater of World War II hung in the balance. Eisenhower even prepared a speech for a failed invasion, knowing that any further delay would mean weeks of waiting and jeopardize the entire operation.

Enter Andrew Scott as Group Capt. James Stagg, the chief meteorologist whose role was crucial. Stagg had to convince Eisenhower to delay the attack by a day due to poor weather conditions. His accurate forecast allowed the invasion to proceed, ultimately surprising the Germans and contributing to the success of Operation Overlord.

"Pressure" is set to be produced by Studiocanal, known for "The Imitation Game," and Working Title, the team behind "Darkest Hour." Directed by Anthony Maras, acclaimed for "Hotel Mumbai," the film is an adaptation of David Haig’s 2014 stage play of the same name.

Production has yet to start on the film and there is currently no release date.
