(WVEC) -- Across the Hampton Roads area, several flood warnings and advisories are in place. Most of the severe weather warnings started at 2:05 p.m. on May 17, and are expected to end on May 19 around midnight.

According to the National Weather Service, more deaths occur due to flooding than from any other thunderstorm related hazard. They said only 12 inches of rushing water can carry away most cars.
Never walk or drive into flood waters.
