Hampton University rebrands proton and cancer therapy center

The institute has been offering cancer patients groundbreaking treatments for more than a decade.

HAMPTON, Va. — Hampton University's proton therapy center is starting a new chapter with a new name.

On Friday, the institute unveiled a new logo to go along with the center's new name — the Hampton University Proton Cancer Insitute.

The institute has been offering cancer patients groundbreaking treatments for more than a decade.

The facility is the eighth proton therapy center in the nation. It has produced "compassionate care and innovative research," according to a release.

"The center was chosen for this area of Virginia. It does have the highest instances of cancer in African-American people, mostly with prostate cancer," said MaryBeth Sullivan, executive director.

The new branding encompasses the center's core values: research, advocacy and access.

"The fact that we're able to incorporate all three of those elements really tells our story, who we are, and where we're going and the mission of this center. But also not forgetting our history and our past," said Tiffany Rodgers, marketing director.
