NORFOLK, Va. — A second child has died from a flu-like illness in the Commonwealth.
The Virginia Department of Health said the child was younger than 4 years old and lived in the Northern region of the state.
The first death was reported in late December and was a child in Virginia's Eastern region, which includes Hampton Roads and the Eastern Shore.
The VDH has not provided any additional information about either death, out of respect for the families' privacy.
Data shows the entire state of Virginia is reporting high levels of flu activity. Children under five account for the most medical visits for influenza-related illnesses.

Flu symptoms include:
- Fever
- Cough and/or sore throat
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Headaches and/or body aches
- Chills
- Fatigue
- Nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea (most common in children)
