NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk Department of Public Health said Wednesday that someone who lived in the city tested positive for COVID-19. It was the first case reported in Norfolk.
Officials said the man who was in his 50s self-isolated once symptoms of virus showed up. He likely picked it up from someone out of state who had it when he came into close contact with that person.
The case in Norfolk was in addition to the 77 cases the Virginia Department of Health mentioned during a news conference late Wednesday morning.
“As we continue to see new cases of COVID-19 in Norfolk and other cities, everyone needs to follow the public health recommendations such as social distancing,” said Norfolk Health Director Dr. Demetria Lindsay. “We all must focus on reducing transmission of the virus. Social distancing measures can help delay and slow the spread of the disease and save lives.”
The Norfolk Department of Public Health activated a public information line (757.683.2745) for questions from residents about the novel coronavirus situation.
