Don't expect a coronavirus vaccine anytime soon

A mass-produced vaccine for COVID-19 will likely take more than a year to manufacture.

NORFOLK, Va. — As COVID-19 (Corona Virus Disease 2019) spreads around the world, you may be asking if there’s a vaccine for the virus, similar to the flu vaccine.

Right now the answer is no, but researchers are in the process of developing one.

The problem is, it’s not an overnight fix. It can take months, sometimes years, to develop effective vaccines.

The development phase has already been successful for this coronavirus, but the testing phase is just getting started.

This includes animal testing, human clinical trials, FDA approval and only then can large-scale production begin.

According to experts, it is highly unlikely we’ll see a vaccine for COVID-19 until next year at best.

Remember, there are four types of coronavirus we’re already familiar with.

They cause the common cold and we still don’t have vaccines for any of them.
