Coronavirus Defense: Clean your smartphone

It's one of the simplest things you can do outside of washing your hands.

NORFOLK, Va. — According to research firm Dscout, we touch our phones more than 2,617 times every day.

Think about all those germs! That’s why it’s important to disinfect your smartphone, especially as COVID-19 continues to spread.

Tech company Apple now says disinfectant wipes are safe to use on the hard nonporous areas of the phone.

But you want to make sure you’re using wipes with 70 percent isopropyl alcohol. Clorox disinfecting wipes also work, according to a notice posted on the Apple website.

It’s also important to keep your work-space tidy and wipe down surfaces- just make sure the surface stays wet for three or four minutes after you use them.

And when you do wipe down, use the one-way method. Don’t go back over things in the opposite direction, because you can redeposit germs.

Finally, let’s put those handshakes on hold. A thumbs-up can work just fine for the time being.
