WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — A staff member at the College of William and Mary has tested positive for COVID-19, the university reported Saturday afternoon.

They emphasized that this is the only individual within their community that has tested positive for the fast moving virus, but emphasized that they didn't expect it to be the only one.

Citing privacy laws, a spokesperson said they would not be releasing any other information about the case or the individual with the positive diagnosis.

They said that the Virginia Department of Health is in the process of contacting people who may have been exposed due to close proximity with the individual. They asked that those who have received a call from VDH regarding self-quarantine should follow their instructions, but that anyone else need not be concerned about exposure from this person.

They said "the campus remains open and operating under the interim policies announced March 11," which can be found at: https://www.wm.edu/about/administration/emergency/current_issues/coronavirus/instruction-events-travel/index.php
