WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — A Williamsburg non-profit is working to assist women diagnosed with breast cancer with resources and support groups, and will be hosting a discussion panel on information for young women.
The mission of the Here for the Girls (H4TG) non-profit is to improve the lives of young women affected by breast cancer. The group helps people to figure out the new chapter of life that breast cancer diagnoses bring. They also work to inform women about health risks and how to avoid the deadly disease.
13News Now has covered several women during October, Breast Cancer Awareness month, who have found strength and support through H4TG.
Tawanna Martin-German was diagnosed at just 31. "Here for the Girls... I found them at the end of my journey, pretty much, for treatments," Martin-German said. "It's great to have women around you that can say, 'Yeah, I know what that feels like.'"
Their upcoming discussion panel will be focused on young women and breast cancer including preventive and diagnostic information. The panel features experts from Riverside Health System, Sentara Health, VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center, Virginia Oncology Associates, and Myriad.
The discussion panel is free and will be taking place on November 1 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Zoom. You can find information on the panelists and where to register on their website.
