NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) — The Wound Care Clinic at Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital will continue to operate amid staff layoffs, a hospital spokesperson said.
Community members speculated on Facebook that the clinic could be closing, but the hospital clarified that the "re-organization" of the department would not affect service.
A statement from the hospital said the wound care clinic "has provided care for individuals with slow to heal or non-healing wounds for several years and [will continue] to provide this much-needed service for our community."
Additionally, the statement addressed the changes in personnel by saying "when we re-organize a department, we work with our employees to identify other opportunities within Bon Secours."
The hospital's communications staff did not provide information about how many people are losing their jobs within the department. Personnel matters are not released under hospital policy.
On Wednesday, people commented on a Facebook post about a woman losing her job at the hospital. One person wrote that it is "so harsh, especially this time of year." Another person commented that the woman who lost her job may have helped save her family member's life.
Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital has operated in the Newport News area since 1952.
