NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- All inbound traffic to Naval Station Norfolk was closed Monday, afternoon.
A driver attempted to run through a gate, causing the inbound traffic to be closed, and only one outbound lane to be opened at each gate.
The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m.
It was later discovered that the suspect was a sailor assigned to one of the ships home-ported in Norfolk, however the sailor failed to show the proper credentials when entering the base.
The suspect was detained at approximately 3:25 p.m. All traffic and gates were reopened and are now operating normally.
