YORKTOWN -- A French frigate is stopping in Yorktown Monday.

The La Fayette will honor the French sailors and soldiers and the Americans who took part in the siege of Yorktown in 1781. That battle led to the surrender of British forces in the last major battle of the American Revolution.

The frigate anchored in the York River around 8 a.m. and fired a 21-gun salute. After that, CPT Serge Bordarier, escorted by 30 French sailors, will come ashore and lay a wreath at the Monument to Victory and Alliance at 9 a.m.

The La Fayette is headed to Norfolk.
