CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Firefighters battled two separate fires in the Greenbrier section of Chesapeake on Thursday afternoon.
The first fire was reported in the 500 block of Centerville Turnpike North shortly before 3 p.m. The fire at the vacant, single-story home was brought under control by 3:38 p.m., and was fully extinguished by 4:01.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
As crews were working on the Centerville fire, a call came in about another fire, this time at the Red Robin restaurant at 1024 Eden Way North around 3:30.
Investigators believe an improperly extinguished cigarette lit the mulch on fire outside the restaurant, which spread to a wall of the building.
Firefighters used chainsaws to quickly open the wall and extinguish the fire before it could spread.
The was fully out by 4:39, but the restaurant will remain closed until the damage can be assessed.
No injuries are reported at either fire location.
