VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- One person has died in an accident Thursday morning in Virginia Beach involving two cars on Lynnhaven Parkway and Gravenhurst Drive.
Police closed down Lynnhaven Parkway from Indian River Road to Pleasant Valley Road at 6:55 a.m..
After investigation, police say the victim's vehicle was on Gravenhurst Drive, making a left turn onto Lynnhaven Parkway. The car struck an oncoming vehicle that was traveling northbound of the parkway.
The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
Officials also determined that after the initial impact, the vehicle traveling northbound on Lynnhaven Parkway struck a second vehicle that was sitting in the left turning lane, preparing to turn onto Gravenhurst Drive.
Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.
The driver of the vehicle traveling northbound on Lynnhaven Parkway has been charged with reckless driving.
Lynnhaven Pkwy closed in BOTH directions between Indian River and Pleasant Valley due to fatal accident. Closure expected for several hours.
