NORFOLK, Va. — Fallen Newport News Police Officer Katie Thyne made her final trip home to New Hampshire late Tuesday night.
The Newport News Police Department escorted Officer Thyne's body to Norfolk International Airport.
Her casket was then escorted by Pelham Police Department from Boston Logan International Airport to New Hampshire.
"Thank you to all of the agencies that helped us make this happen. Her services will be this weekend," Pelham Police Department said in a Facebook post.
"Thank you for your service Ofc. Thyne. We have the watch from here."
In photos shared by Newport News police, Officer Thyne's 2-year-old daughter is seen kissing her casket before it is loaded onto an American Airlines plane.
Officer Thyne was born and raised in New Hampshire. She made her way to Virginia after serving in the U.S. Navy.
Officer Thyne graduated from the police academy last year before joining the Newport News Police Department. She remained in the Navy Reserves before her death.
She is survived by her mother, three brothers, a stepfather, a partner, and a 2-year-old daughter.
Donations to help her family can be made through the Newport News Police Foundation. One hundred percent of the money will go to the family.
All are welcome to celebrate Officer Thyne's life and service on Monday, February 3 at the Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton.
