VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — At Tuesday night's school board meeting in Virginia Beach, council members voted unanimously that Bayside Middle School and Bayside 6th Grade campus will be consolidated once again, 11 years after they separated.
Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, sixth-grade students will attend classes at the current Bayside Middle School location at 965 Newtown Road.
On the 6th Grade Campus' website, school administrators say sixth grade classes were moved to a separate building at the start of the 2014-2015 school year after Bayside Middle School had accreditation issues.
The website explains research "demonstrated the power of the smaller, more intimate school environment that allows for smaller class sizes and enables teachers and administrators to build stronger relationships with students and their families."
The sixth grade and the other grades were separated from 1994 to 2000, and then combined again when Bayside Middle School added a new wing.
There is no word yet what the 6th Grade Campus building on Jericho Road will be used for.
