Robber shot by Yorktown gas station clerk, deputies say

The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, was brought to a hospital for treatment. It's unclear the severity of his injuries.

YORKTOWN, Va. — A clerk of a Yorktown convenience store shot and injured a robbery suspect Monday morning, the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post.

The incident unfolded at around 9:15 a.m. when a 38-year-old man tried to rob Joe's Kwik Mart located on George Washington Memorial Highway but was thwarted by a store clerk, officials said.

The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, was brought to a hospital for treatment. The severity of his injuries is unclear.

The sheriff's office has not said if the clerk is facing charges in the incident but said an investigation is ongoing.
