WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The Williamsburg Police Department is searching for a York County man accused of strangling a woman early Saturday morning.
The incident was reported at around 2 a.m. in the 500 block of York Street, between Powhatan and Pocahontas streets.
Police said the woman was taken to a hospital for treatment but did not say what condition she's in.
Before officers arrived, the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Jeffrey Haywood, allegedly fled the scene on a black bicycle.
Police said Haywood is accused of domestic assault, strangulation, petit larceny, property damage, prevention of calling 911 and willful destruction of physical evidence.

Haywood is described as being 6-feet tall, weighing about 185 pounds and having gray hair and beard. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and short.
