Woman pleads guilty to Norfolk police chase that ended in rollover crash

Officials said the vehicle struck a curb and two pillars supporting the I-264 overpass, causing the vehicle to roll multiple times and lose a tire.

NORFOLK, Va. — A 20-year-old woman was convicted of leading Norfolk police on a chase in a stolen vehicle that ended with her crashing and injuring two, the Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.

Alana Bagley-Clayton pleaded guilty to charges of vehicle theft and felony eluding in the crash on Oct. 30, 2023.

Norfolk police spotted Bagley-Clayton driving a stolen Hyundai Kona near Campostella Road and Greenleaf Drive.

When officers attempted to pull her over, they say she began speeding to more than 80 mph and was weaving in and out of traffic, resulting in her crashing along Brambleton Avenue near Norfolk State University (NSU).

Officials said the vehicle struck a curb and two pillars supporting the Interstate 264 overpass, causing the vehicle to roll multiple times and lose a tire.

The lost tire struck a driver in another vehicle, officials said. That driver and one of Bagley-Clayton's passengers both received medical treatment.

“Ms. Bagley-Clayton possessed a stolen car and then endangered herself and others when the police tried to stop her,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi. “If the police turn on their lights, people must stop. Eluding only makes things worse.”
