CHARLOTTE, N.C. — According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, a woman was carjacked at gunpoint by five teens who took off with her child inside the car in northeast Charlotte.
Police responded to the 6300 block of N Tryon Street Sunday morning to an armed robbery.
Officers said a woman started her car, put her 7-year-old son inside and ran inside a business when five male teens stole her car at gunpoint with her child still inside.
The suspects left with the car but eventually let the child go.
Officer located the stolen vehicle near Shamrock Road where the five suspects jumped out of the car and ran from the stolen car.
Three suspects were detained without incident on North Sharon Amity and Albermarle Road. K-9 units were called in and police are searching for the remaining two suspects.
Store surveillance video captured the terrifying moments.
"We have to be vigilant," David Rebolloso, owner of the North Tryon Laundromat, said. "It is kind of scary."
The suspects were caught on camera walking through the same laundromat just minutes before, going in through the backdoor. One was wearing a blanket.
"I turned around and they were gone in a matter of seconds," Rebolloso said. "They were just walking through."
This was the second carjacking with a child involved in the span of one week in Charlotte.
Police are using this incident as a reminder for parents -- never leave your kids alone in the car, even if just for a few seconds.
