NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — One of the suspects rounded up in a massive, multi-state drug sting last year has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
45-year-old Kimberly Massenburg was convicted of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin and 500 grams or more of cocaine.
According to court documents, Massenburg served as a go-between for a heroin dealer and a cocaine dealer. The two dealers would exchange tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of cocaine and heroin through Massenburg at a time.
In October of 2018, Massenburg was arrested in Hampton after being found with a kilogram of cocaine. After she was released on bond, she got back in touch with the dealers and organized a meeting between them so they could continue to exchange drugs directly with one another.
Her case was investigated as part of Operation Cookout, a massive operation that involved over 30 law enforcement agencies from Virginia, North Carolina, and Texas. Massenburg was one of 35 people arrested in the August 2019 round-up.
