NORFOLK, Va. — A Williamsburg man was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Tuesday for soliciting sex with a minor, the Department of Justice said.
This conviction comes after Nico Mariano Villegas, 32, attempted online coercion and enticement of a minor.
According to court documents, a Naval Criminal Investigative Service agent posed as a 14-year-old girl on a website commonly used for escorts and adult services during an undercover operation targeting child exploitation and human trafficking.
On May 25, Villegas texted the agent who he believed was a 14-year-old girl, and arranged to meet her in Norfolk and pay her $150 for oral sex.
After exchanging pictures, he drove to the location where they agreed to meet. Law enforcement tried to conduct a traffic stop and blocked his vehicle. Villegas accelerated his car and crashed into a police car. He got out of his car and ran away. Police later found him behind a store and arrested him.
Officials say Villegas' phone contained copies of the conversations, pictures, and videos of child sexual abuse material.
