Virginia Beach police officer arrested for several child sex crimes

A Virginia Beach police officer is facing multiple charges regarding child sex crimes, according to authorities.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Virginia Beach police officer has been "relieved of his police powers" as he faces several charges related to child sex crimes, a police department spokesperson confirmed Wednesday.

After an investigation by the Virginia Beach Police Department's Special Investigations and Internal Affairs Bureaus, 31-year-old Kyle LaLonde was arrested on the following charges:

  • Attempted indecent liberties with a child less than 15 years of age
  • Attempt indecent liberties
  • Entice a minor to perform in child pornography
  • Propose sex act by communication system with a child less than 15 years of age
  • Solicitation to commit a felony
  • Possession of child pornography

Court documents say LaLonde worked for the department for three years. He is now behind bars without bond.

Most of the alleged crimes date back to September and October of 2023, according to the court documents. LaLonde allegedly inappropriately touched a girl under the age of 15 and said he tried to entice a minor to perform in child pornography. The documents go on to say LaLonde possessed child pornography just last month.

A police spokesperson said LaLonde is currently still employed by the department but is stripped of his police powers.

LaLonde is scheduled for a bond hearing on Friday.
