VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Virginia Beach man accused of leading a multi-state methamphetamine distribution ring will spend three decades behind bars, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Friday.
Using out-of-state suppliers, the DOJ claims Malik "Mayo" Dillard imported methamphetamine with 98.6% purity to Virginia via the U.S. Postal Service. Then, according to court documents, Dillard used sub-dealers to expand his operation across Hampton Roads.
Authorities claim the operation went on for multiple years.
This is Dillard's 15th criminal conviction and third federal conviction. He's been convicted for his role in more than a dozen bank robberies across multiple states.
From 2007 to 2022, the Virginia Department of Health's Chief Medical Examiner says methamphetamine-related deaths soared 9,500%.
Dillard's case was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation which aims to uncover the highest-level drug traffickers, money launderers and transnational criminal organizations, the DOJ said.
