VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Virginia Beach man pleaded guilty to multiple charges in federal court Friday after explosive chemicals, guns and silencers were discovered in his apartment over the summer of 2022, the Department of Justice announced.
While searching 33-year-old Daniel Burky's apartment in Virginia Beach on July 14, 2022, law enforcement recovered multiple guns, including an AK-47 style firearm, from the apartment, the DOJ said. Boxes of suppressors, a gas mask, rifle magazines, a ballistic helmet and vest were among the items recovered.
Chemicals used to make homemade explosives were also found inside the apartment, prompting a response from the Virginia Beach Fire Department, Fire Marshal and the Bomb Squad.
Videos from electronic devices seized during the search show Burky shooting handguns and rifles equipped with silencers, according to the DOJ.
Burky's sentencing is scheduled for April 11, 2024. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
He was previously sentenced for drug and firearm charges.
