VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A man already convicted of armed robbery and rape charges stemming from a 2021 Norfolk home invasion has pleaded guilty to charges connected to a similar incident in Virginia Beach.
The Virginia Beach Commonwealth's Attorney's Office said Deandre Ward pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of robbery, two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and burglary.
Norfolk prosecutors said in October of 2021, Ward and another man robbed a woman inside her Norfolk home at gunpoint and then sexually assaulted her. Detectives later learned the suspects were also involved in another unreported home invasion robbery in the 3700 block of Windermere Court in Virginia Beach, just before the Norfolk assault.
Both Ward and the other suspect, Dameron Wright, pleaded guilty to the Norfolk charges last year.
After pleading guilty to the Virginia Beach charges on Wednesday, a judge sentenced Ward to 30 years in prison with 18 suspended, leaving 12 to serve. The judge also ordered him to be on 60 years of good behavior and indeterminate supervision not to exceed five years. Ward was also ordered not to have contact with the victims.
