NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- The U.S. Marshals is asking for the public's help in locating an armed and dangerous fugitive suspected of a murder last month in Norfolk.
On the evening of March 1, police were called to a single-vehicle car crash in the 700 block of E. Little Creek Road. When officers arrived they discovered the driver, 25-year-old Patrick Cochrane, had been shot. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
A few days later, police arrested Jeremy Harris and Becca Banta. 13News Now spoke with the victim's family who claimed Banta is Cochrane's ex-girlfriend.
Both were charged with second-degree murder. Also charged with Cochrane's murder was 24-year-old Thomas Nesmith, who has since gone on the run.
Nesmith, who investigators said is a known member of the Crips gang, is believed to be hiding in New York, and was seen in Brooklyn as recently as mid-March. Nesmith can be identified by several distinguishing tattoos on his neck and face.
Nesmith is considered armed and dangerous.
A reward of up to $1,500 is being offered for information leading to Nesmith’s arrest. If you have any information, you're asked to call the U.S. Marshals at 1-877-Wanted-2 (1-877-926-8332) or email usms.wanted@usdoj.gov.
