NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) - Police are investigating two separate shooting in Newport News Wednesday night, and one person is confirmed dead

According to police the homicide incident occurred at 23rd Street and Wickham Avenue. Police receievd a call at 9:23 p.m.

When police arrived on the scene they found 47-year-old Kelcey Wellons lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 9:27 p.m.

The investigation remains ongoing, and there is no suspect information at this time.

The second shooting occurred at the 600 block of Gloucester Drive at 9:31 p.m. and Police have confirmed the victim is a Hampton Roads Regional Jail employee.

When officers arrived they found a 39-year-old male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

Police have not released any further details about both incidents.
