Two 17-year-olds charged with murder following shooting spree

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Police have arrested two juveniles who are accused of carrying out a series of shootings in the Virginia Beach area, two of which were deadly.

Anonymous tips given through Virginia Beach Crime Solvers pointed investigators to a possible suspect late Thursday night. A search warrant was carried out at that suspect's home, resulting in an arrest.

Possible evidence linking the suspect to the shootings was located in the suspect's home.

Further investigation led to the identification of a second suspect and a subsequent search warrant was served in which even more evidence was located linking the second suspect to the shootings.

Authorities say both suspects are 17-years-old and are being held at the Virginia Beach Juvenile Detention Center without bond.

Due to the age of the suspects, their names and identities cannot be released.

The shootings took place between Nov. 29 and Dec. 7 in the Chimney Hill, Scarborough Square Park and Cardinal Estates areas:

  • November 30, 2016 Old Clubhouse Road
  • December 2, 2016 Homicide on Hawk Ave
  • December 4, 2016 Homicide on Campion Court
  • December 7, 2016 Dunnbury Court
  • December 7, 2016 Old Clubhouse Road.

As far as police can determine there is no relationship between the victims of these crimes and the suspects involved at this time. There is also no evidence to suggest that these crimes were gang-related.

One of the two teens has been charged with 1st degree murder, four counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and three counts of malicious wounding.

The second teen has been charged with two counts of 1st degree murder, and one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The is an active investigation, both teens may face additional charges in the future.
