YORKTOWN, Va. — It’s been three months since a now-deceased Northern Neck man was named the serial killer responsible for at least two of the Colonial Parkway murders.
While the decades-old mystery seems to have quieted down in recent months, at least one man is getting louder in his plea for answers.
“I think that if we keep putting resources into this case, we’ll be able to get some answers," Bill Thomas said.
Bill Thomas vows to never stop seeking justice for his sister, Cathy.
In 1986, she and her girlfriend, Rebecca Dowski, became the first victims in a killing spree known as the “Colonial Parkway murders.”
Thomas frequently highlights the case on his ‘Mind Over Murder’ podcast. And on Monday, he’s bringing the podcast to Yorktown Library for a live recording.
Thomas and his co-host will talk about what they know, answer audience questions and implore anyone with information about Alan Wilmer, Sr. to come forward.
The sister of Keith Call, another Parkway victim, will also join Thomas to discuss the case.
“More than half of the Colonial Parkway murder victim’s parents have gone to their graves waiting for answers in this case, so what’s happened over the years now is a group of siblings have taken over the advocacy role," Thomas said.
With that advocacy comes tough questions for law enforcement. Thomas says he wants straightforward answers about the unsolved cases. Authorities so far have only been able to confirm Wilmer Sr. is responsible for two of the eight murders.
“I’d want to know what they thought the likelihood was that Alan Wade Wilmer Sr. is involved in all four of the double homicides of the Colonial Parkway murders," he said.
We reached out to Virginia State Police and the FBI with similar questions.
A Virginia State Police spokesperson said Friday they are still following up on leads and requesting new tips regarding the now-deceased suspect, Alan Wilmer Sr., but added: “Investigators are not in a position at this time to publicly release any details about the progress made to date. This is for the sole purpose of protecting the integrity of the investigations.”
Similarly, a spokesperson for the FBI Norfolk Field Office said they have no additional updates to share at this time: "This is still an ongoing investigation for the FBI, alongside our state and local partners. We’re thankful to everyone who has submitted tips to aid in this investigation, and would continue to encourage the public to come forward with any information on Alan Wilmer Sr."
Monday’s podcast event is from 6-8 p.m. at the Yorktown Library.
Bill Thomas is hosting another podcast there on Monday, May 13.
