Man accused of stealing cash from Newport News credit union

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A search is underway in Newport News Saturday for a suspected robber who allegedly threatened he had a weapon.

The Newport News Police Department said a man, who has not been identified, stole an unknown amount of cash from the Langley Federal Credit Union on Jefferson Avenue shortly before 11 a.m. Police said the suspect "implied" he was armed but did not display the weapon.

The suspect ran away from the scene before officers arrived.

No one was reported injured.

Detectives and forensics responded to the scene to investigate.
