HAMPTON, Va. — The suspect in the deadly shooting at a Hampton Wingstop Wednesday night was identified as a former employee, police said on Friday.
The Hampton Police Division said it is working with the city's Commonwealth Attorney’s Office to present the facts and obtain charges. The suspect's name won't be shared until the warrants have been obtained.
The shooting happened at the Wingstop on Coliseum Crossing near Peninsula Town Center. Police arrived to find 29-year-old Travell "Trey" Giles of Newport News shot inside Wingstop; he died at the scene.
Investigators believe Giles and the suspect, who knew each other, were involved in an argument inside the business. During the argument, detectives said the suspect shot the victim. The suspect got away before officers got there.
