JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. — A 14-year-old boy is facing a felony charge for allegedly threatening violence against Warhill High School, the James City County Police Department (JCCPD) said Wednesday.
The Warhill student was booked into Merrimac Juvenile Detention Center on one felony count of making threats of death or injury.
The threats posted to social media were discovered Wednesday afternoon, police said. This prompted an investigation led by JCCPD school resource officers, alongside Williamsburg-James City County School officials.
"The safety and security of WJCC schools are paramount for the Department, and all necessary measures are being taken to address the threats," the police department's release reads.
For the rest of the week, officials said students and families should expect a heightened law enforcement presence at school events as a "precautionary measure."
