Man hurt in stabbing on Colley Avenue in Norfolk

Norfolk police were called to the scene of a stabbing on Wednesday.

NORFOLK, Va. — One man is recovering and another is facing charges following a reported stabbing in Norfolk, police said.

The Norfolk Police Department said officers were called to the 7-Eleven in the 5200 block of Colley Avenue on Wednesday evening.  They arrived to find a 29-year-old man suffering a laceration to his mouth. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Court documents say he received several stitches.

Following an investigation, police arrested 44-year-old Gregory Williams and charged him with malicious wounding.

Court records say Williams told officers the victim allegedly pushed him and wouldn’t let him leave the store. Williams adds he pushed the victim off him and turned sideways as “an altercation occurred.”

Detectives said Williams cooperated with them but hesitated on certain statements. It goes on to say he later appeared verbally hostile regarding the situation.

The bail determinations sheet identifies an alleged witness and video as evidence in the case. Court paperwork shows Williams has a prior criminal record with past charges in multiple states including Texas and Florida.

Williams is currently being held without bond at the Norfolk City Jail. He's expected to appear in court Friday morning for an arraignment hearing.

The incident remains under investigation. If you know anything that may help detectives, you're asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-562-5887. You can also submit a tip online at the P3 Tips website.
