19-year-old killed in Wards Corner shooting, Norfolk police say

A 17-year-old was also injured, but police said that victim is expected to be OK.

NORFOLK, Va. — UPDATE: A 19-year-old man was shot and killed in the Wards Corner area of Norfolk Thursday afternoon, according to police.

The shooting happened at the intersection of East Little Creek Road and Granby Street, near many businesses, including a pharmacy and grocery stores. Police officers responded around 3 p.m.

The Norfolk Police Department identified the person killed as Johnathan Clark, 19, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Another teen, a 17-year-old, was also hurt but is expected to survive.

Roslyn Moore said she was shopping inside a grocery store during the shooting.

“This was very unsettling," said Moore. “It's just a shame here at Wards Corner. It's just a shame. You don't expect it."

Moore and other shoppers said they are concerned and want to know what happened.

“Everyone has a family. So, I just feel bad for the victim's family whenever there’s a victim in an act like this," said Moore.

Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi was also a the scene. He’s fed up and says police can’t solve the problem of violence on their own.

“I cannot tell you how frustrated and upset I feel. If you see something, help us. The police cannot arrest people they can’t identify. I can’t prosecute the people the police cannot arrest," said Fatehi.
