HAMPTON, Va. — Following calls on the public to help identify a suspect, the Hampton Police Division (HPD) announced a 23-year-old has been arrested in connection to a shooting Saturday night.
Hampton police said that around 11:05 p.m., dispatch received a call reporting a shooting in the 600 block of Bell Street.
While officers responded to the scene, police were told that a man with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds had walked into Sentara CarePlex Hospital. The Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue then took the victim to a different hospital for further treatment.
The investigation revealed the victim and suspect were arguing when the suspect, later identified as Mekhi Ivey, shot at the victim, striking him multiple times.
Ivey was arrested on one count of malicious wounding, one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, one count of willful discharge of a firearm in a public place, one count of reckless handling of a firearm and one count of domestic assault and battery.
Police did not release other details about the incident including motive or circumstances.
