2-year-old girl abducted in Virginia Beach has been found safe, father of child in custody

Authorities believe the two are heading toward Lewiston Woodville, North Carolina.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Virginia State Police (VSP) issued an AMBER Alert for a 2-year-old girl believed to be in "extreme danger" after her father abducted her in Virginia Beach Saturday, authorities said.

Deandre Dorsey, 27, abducted his daughter, Zuri, from her bed at her home on Sapphire Drive near Fire Opal Drive at 7:15 a.m. Saturday, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD).

Dorsey, who has six outstanding warrants out for his arrest, is believed to be heading toward Lewiston Woodville, North Carolina. He is likely driving a red 2016 Honda Accord with North Carolina license plate RAZ9972, police said.

Dorsey is described as being 5'11", weighing 160 pounds, and having black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing dark-colored jogger pants with writing on the side of the leg and a black hoodie. Law enforcement says he has Type 1 Diabetes and it's unclear if he has his medication on hand.

Zuri is reported to be 2' tall, weighing about 34 pounds and having brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen in red and white striped pajamas but may now be wearing green pajamas with a Santa Claus print, according to VBPD.

One woman who lives in the same apartment complex told 13News Now that while she’s never met Zuri, she’s keeping an eye out for the young girl.

“It was definitely scary, but we knew to just be alert when we come into the complex and walking around, just look out for the car. We just hope that the little girl gets home safely," Jhayda Washington said.

Anyone who sees Dorsey or Zuri or knows of their whereabouts is urged to call VBPD Missing Persons Detective at 757-385-4401.
