PORTSMOUTH, Va. — A Newport News woman has died by an apparent suicide, just over a month after she was sentenced for stabbing her two children, killing one of them.
According to a news release from the Hampton Roads Regional Jail, Sarah Ganoe was found unresponsive in her cell early on the morning of October 15 "due to her committing an act of self-directed violence via hanging."
Ganoe was revived and taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced brain-dead the following day.
Earlier this year, Ganoe pleaded guilty to stabbing her infant son and 8-year-old daughter at her home in 2021. According to court documents, the boy died at the scene, while the girl was rushed to the hospital with "at least 50" stab wounds. The girl survived after emergency surgery.
In September, Ganoe was sentenced to 37 years.
