PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Police are working to learn more about an exposure incident that a student reported at a bus stop in Portsmouth on Thursday.
According to a spokesperson with Portsmouth Public Schools, parents of students at Churchland High School were made aware of the incident.
Police say around 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning, a student was walking to a bus stop at Tejo Lane and Silvermaple Drive when he saw a man exposing himself.
Officers were contacted afterward and provided extra security in the surrounding area as a result of the report.
Principal Shawn Milliaci sent a message to families of students after it happened:
Good evening, families. This is an important message from Mr. Millaci, principal of Churchland High School. Earlier today, a student who was walking to the bus stop at Tejo Lane and Silvermaple Drive, reported seeing a man exposing himself. Police were immediately contacted, and they are investigating. Police will have an additional presence in the area today. I am sharing this with you so that you are aware and can review best safety practices with your child tonight. As always, I thank you for your support of Churchland High School.
Police say the investigation is ongoing. They say the suspect is a taller black male who was wearing a gray hoodie and light-colored jeans at the time of the incident.
A Portsmouth Police spokesperson says that authorities have found no evidence that this exposure case is related to a previous case that happened a couple of weeks ago when a Churchland High School student was assaulted on the way to school.
