JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. — Police in James City County fired shots at a man after he allegedly drew a gun on officers.
No one was hurt. The incident happened just before 7 p.m. Saturday in the Lake Powell Pointe subdivision.
The James City County Police Department said officers were responding to calls of a domestic dispute between 83-year-old Paul Baker and his spouse at a home on Pierside Reach.
Police said when officers arrived, they found Baker with a shotgun in the front yard of the home. One officer took the spouse to find cover as the other officer ordered Baker to put down the weapon, according to a police spokesperson.
The spokesperson said Baker “advanced toward the officers with the shotgun drawn" before one of the officers fired their weapon.
No one was hit.
Baker dropped his shotgun and was immediately taken into custody.
He is charged with two counts of assault and battery of a family member and other assault and weapons charges. Additional charges could be possible. He is being held without bond.
The officer who fired their weapon has been placed on modified assignment until an investigation is complete.
This marks the third police shooting in Hampton Roads in just over a week.
