NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Police have taken into custody a suspect who allegedly shot a man Monday afternoon in Newport News.
Reginald Phillips, 34, was taken into custody Wednesday morning, police said in a tweet.
Officers were called to the 300 block of Deputy Lane shortly after 2 p.m., where they found a 28-year-old Newport News man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators said the victim had gotten into a fight with someone known to him. During the fight, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim and then fled the area on foot.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered life threatening.
Phillips is charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a felon, threat to trespass bodily injury/kill, and two counts of annoying phone calls. Police said Phillips also has other unrelated warrants out of Newport News.
