HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Police have identified three men they say were involved in a GameStop robbery that led to a shooting that injured a police officer and a suspect.
According to police, Allen Jamal Ralph, 27, James Cole Gregory, 21, and Leonard Allen Morrison III, 29, attempted to rob a GameStop on Hampton Road Center Parkway. Police arrived and the three ran away.
After a short chase, an officer found one of the suspects and they began to fight as the officer tried to take him into custody. During the fight, the suspect was able to grab the officer's gun.
Another officer saw the fight and noticed the suspect had a weapon. He exchanged gunfire with the suspect in fear for his life and the lives of others.
The suspect was shot multiple times and the unarmed officer was shot once.
Both the officer and the suspect received first aid at the scene before being transferred to a local area hospital.
The officer was released from the hospital around 6:30 p.m. Hampton Police say the officer's bullet proof vest saved their life.
Ralph and Gregory were taken into custody. They both face three counts of Robbery, two counts of Conspiracy to Commit a Robbery, seven counts of Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, and four counts of Abduction. Gregory also faces an additional charge of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Warrants have been filed for Morrison, he faces charges of Attempted Capital Murder on a Police Officer, Disarming a Law Enforcement Officer of a Firearm, Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit a Robbery, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, Abduction, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Morrison is also wanted on charges in Maryland for Failure to Appear for a burglary charge.
The three men are also believed to be connected to crimes in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake, including the robbery of another GameStop on Sams Drive. No one was injured in that robbery.
All officers on scene were wearing body cameras. A criminal and internal investigation into the incident is underway.
