Norfolk shooting sends man to the hospital, suspect in custody

Norfolk Police Department responded to a report of a gunshot wound in the 6600 block of Pilot Avenue on Tuesday.

NORFOLK, Va. — A man is recovering after he was shot in Norfolk on Tuesday night.

The Norfolk Police Department said officers responded to a call at  7:56 p.m. for a gunshot victim in the 6600 block of Pilot Avenue. They arrived to find a 20-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg.

The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

While the victim was found on Pilot Avenue, investigators believe the shooting happened nearby in the 6600 block of Chesapeake Boulevard.

After a preliminary investigation, police arrested 20-year-old Saivyon Jackson and charged him with malicious wound and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Jackson is currently being held at the Norfolk City Jail without bond.
