NORFOLK, Va. — Last week a Norfolk man was sentenced to almost three years in prison for burglarizing his neighbors, officials said.
Corey D. Sanders, 39, was seen on video surveillance taking items from a neighbor’s garage that he entered through the side door in September 2022, the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney news release reads.
The victim recognized Sanders and Brittany Lee Bowman, who was his accomplice, from the neighborhood and was able to later identify them to detectives.
Bowman was arrested on Oct. 4, 2022, and confessed to her role in the crime and accused Sanders of burglary.
Then, on Nov. 11, 2022, officials say Sanders burglarized another neighbor, removing items from an open detached garage, and was again recognized on video surveillance as he’d worked on the neighbor’s home in the past. The neighbor reported the burglary in February 2023, and in March of that year, Sanders was arrested.
Sanders was sentenced to nearly three years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of burglary.
He has seven years and one month of his sentence suspended if he completes two years of supervised probation with good behavior.
Bowman was sentenced to 12 months in jail after pleading guilty to grand larceny, burglary, and conspiring to commit burglary, officials said. Following her sentence, Bowman will be required to spend two years in the Community Corrections Alternative Program followed by two years of supervised probation with good behavior.
