Norfolk City Jail contractor arrested for distributing contraband in facility

30-year-old Takeyah Gosha was arrested after bringing controlled substances into the Norfolk City Jail and delivering it to inmates during her rounds.

NORFOLK, Va. — Takeyah Gosha, 30, was arrested on the morning of Oct. 7 for bringing a controlled substance, suboxone, into the Norfolk City Jail and distributing it to inmates.

Gosha is the employee of a contractor service that delivers canteen to inmates, Norfolk Sheriff's Office authorities said. Suboxone is a drug that is most commonly prescribed to people going through opioid withdrawal but can create a psychological dependence.

Investigation into Gosha from the Sheriff's Office Security Threat Unit found Gosha delivered suboxone to inmates during her rounds.

Gosha was arrested this morning during her shift without incident and has been charged with delivering drugs to a prisoner committed to the jail, a class 5 felony.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

Norfolk Sheriff Joe Baron said, "It is our expectation that all employees and contractors will behave with integrity. The arrest of Ms. Gosha is an example of how we will hold ourselves and our contractors accountable when they act outside the law and/or our expected values."
