NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A man is facing assault and abduction charges after what police are calling a "domestic" and "tactical situation" in Newport News.
It happened around 3:45 a.m. Sunday on Jenness Lane. Police say the man was possibly armed and reportedly holding several family members hostage inside the home.
Police said its Tactical Operations Unit and members of its negotiators team were called in. It wasn't until a little after 6:30 a.m. that negotiators were able to get him to surrender peacefully.
Police have not identified the suspect at this time. The incident remains under investigation.
